Roll Out of the Retail Food Risk Factor Study Database

The FDA National Retail Food Team (NRFT) and the Food Protection Defense Institute (FPDI) are pleased to announce the release of the Retail Food Risk Factor Study database. The database has been developed to assist State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) retail food protection programs in conducting an assessment on the occurrence of foodborne illness risk factors within their jurisdictions. Access to the database will provide regulatory jurisdictions with information technology support to:

  • Store and track data on the occurrence of foodborne illness risk factors in foodservice and retail food store establishments.
  • Access a secure site to maintain the integrity of the data entered for their jurisdiction.
  • Produce reports on the occurrence of foodborne illness risk factors.
  • Provide options for merging, sorting, and sharing data with other jurisdictions.

The web-based database is located within FoodSHIELD and is available at no cost to regulatory retail food protection programs. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s National Retail Food Team uses this database platform to store and maintain the data collection records for its current study. Over thirty SLTT jurisdictions have piloted the system and are using the database for their own studies.

A webinar is schedule for Friday, January 17, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:15PM Eastern Time to provide interested jurisdictions with an overview of the design features of the database. The webinar will cover:

  • Registration and access to a secure database site for your jurisdiction.
  • Instructions to allow staff access to use and enter data into the system.
  • Options for customizing the data collection fields.
  • Tutorial for entering data and completing a record.
  • Managing and review of data collection records.
  • Generating reports summarizing the data analysis for each data collection period.
  • Technical assistance and resources available for jurisdiction support.

Webinar Audience: SLTT Retail Food Protection Program Managers and representatives from regulatory jurisdiction enrolled in the FDA Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards.

Registration: Registration is coordinated through FoodSHIELD. Once registered, you will receive email confirmation, including the URL for the webinar room.  The deadline to register is January 15, 2020
